This model was Altra’s very first shoe back in 2011 and it’s redesign for this latest version emphasizes versatility. The zero drop platform, wide toe box and superior insole cushioning are all here, as they are in the six prior Altra models that have made the list (the insole in the 4.5 was even made removable to accommodate orthotics). Additional updates provide an increased rubber wraparound in the outsole and more of a sock-like fit in the midsole thanks to a newly engineered mesh that is neither too elastic nor too snug. Lastly, the ankle collar reaches up a little higher than in previous editions to provide even greater support and stability. Altra uses such phrases as “do-it-all,” and “all-purpose” to describe this shoe, all of which make it ideal for standing and walking all day.
