Under Armour HOVR Sonic

Our top spot for the best women’s Under Armour running shoe goes to their latest and greatest in the HOVR line: the Sonic 2. When the first edition of this shoe came out, it was lauded as a fantastic all-around trainer and nothing about that has changed. The HOVR Cushioning System is all in the heel, providing more firm support for heel strikes while the softer Charged Cushioning is in the forefoot for a smooth and fast transition. Unlike the heavier outsoles with carbon rubber in the Guardian and Infinite, the Sonic 2’s outsole is made up primarily of blown rubber for a light springiness. The knit upper was enhanced in this second version with a thin lining underneath to provide more protection against the elements, a downside of knit uppers of the past that UA is trying to combat. And, like its HOVR sisters, the Sonic 2 is a “connected shoe,” with the same sensor that transmits your running data to UA’s Map My Run app. In short, the Sonic 2 is the Goldilocks of running shoes: it’s not too much of any one feature and is just right for running any distance.
